SRD is a Vietnamese NGO with success in sustainable agriculture and livelihood interventions across the mountainous regions and deltas of northern and central Vietnam. The focus of our successful projects over three decades has been capacity building within communities and empowering them to sustainably manage their own livelihoods in the long term. The groups that SRD is aiming to support are: poor farmers, women, children, ethnic minorities and people living with disabilities. These vulnerable groups are facing to significant challenges in developing sustainable livelihoods, as they are often marginalized and suffer from entrenched poverty and a lack of education.
SRD’s interventions range broadly in scope, responding to the high priority needs of individual communities. They include technical and institutional interventions, with the goal of empowering farmers and strengthening community-based organizations. The success of our projects is underpinned by our participatory approach – ensuring that local people have ownership of their development and that their true needs are met. Farmer field classes, focus groups, community based organizations, and training of trainer (ToT) courses are key elements of our participatory approach.
