These farmers groups converted to agroecological farms. They decided to go into organic soya in their production as they found that it will contribute to rotational crops for their organic cotton. Due to the fact that organic soya is very new in their area, the farmers went with their leaders to meet the local government services in charge of agriculture to help them access to good seed quality and receive the needed training on the different aspects of organic soya production. The farmers attended training sessions on fertilization, such as the use of cow manure, compost, and legumes; pest management using local techniques; and training sessions on precautions for seed selection. A subgroup on soya processing was also organized, where the farmers learned to make soy-based cheese. The farmers also grow organic plantain which they process into banana chips.
