This 10-minute documentary captures the testimonials of some of the 25 farmers and 25 market-gardeners who received a six-month practical training to become agroecology specialists at the Beer pilot farm in Niayes, Senegal. Agroecology challenged their preconceived notions and persistent narratives about conventional agriculture being better, as they saw firsthand how the quality and yield of their crops improve when grown without expensive chemical inputs that also trap them in a cycle of debt. They also speak of how they appreciated how their bountiful harvest can be eaten freshly picked from the farm without fear of the toxic effects of chemicals on their families and their customers. With agroecology, these African farmers found their freedom.
